CONCH SEASON OPENS

Overview

Conch season runs from October 1st – June 30. The Queen Conch (Strombus gigas) is one of the main seafood staples in Belize and a leading export product. It is a delicacy and a favorite snack or meal for visitors and Belizeans. Some of the most popular dishes include ceviche, conch soup, and conch fritters. Restaurants in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, are preparing this delicious seafood meal, which they omitted from their menu during the closed season from July to the end of September. Conch represents a significant source of revenue for traditional fishermen on Ambergris Caye and across the country, which generates millions of dollars to the Belizean economy. The season usually runs from the 1st October until June 30th of the following year, however the season can close earlier if the conch quota is met before the end date.
